Matthew

Chapter 5

1And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

1Na bere a ɔhunuu nnipakuo no, ɔforo kɔɔ bepɔ so: na bere a ɔtenaa ase no, n'asuafoɔ baa ne nkyɛn:

2And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

2Na ɔbuee n'ano, kyerɛkyerɛɛ wɔn, sɛ:

3Blessed {are} the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

3Nhyira ne wɔn a wɔn honhom mu yɛ ahiafoɔ: efisɛ ɔsoro ahennie no yɛ wɔn deɛ.

4Blessed {are} they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

4Nhyira ne wɔn a wɔsu: efisɛ wɔbɛkyekye wɔn werɛ.

5Blessed {are} the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

5Nhyira ne wɔn a wɔyɛ brɛoo: efisɛ wɔbɛnya asase no.

6Blessed {are} they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

6Nhyira ne wɔn a wɔn kɔm ne osukɔm de wɔn ma tenenee: efisɛ wɔbɛma wɔn afono.

7Blessed {are} the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

7Nhyira ne wɔn a wɔwɔ mmɔborɔhunu: efisɛ wɔbɛnya mmɔborɔhunu.

8Blessed {are} the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

8Nhyira ne wɔn a wɔn koma yɛ kronkron: efisɛ wɔbɛhunu Onyankopɔn.

9Blessed {are} the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

9Nhyira ne asomdwoeɛ yɛfoɔ: efisɛ wɔbɛfrɛ wɔn Onyankopɔn mma.

10Blessed {are} they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

10Nhyira ne wɔn a wɔtaa wɔn wɔ tenenee nti: efisɛ ɔsoro ahennie no yɛ wɔn deɛ.

11Blessed are ye, when {men} shall revile you, and persecute {you}, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. {falsely: Gr. lying}

11Nhyira ne mo, bere a nnipa bɛbu mo animtia, na wɔataa mo, na wɔaka bɔne nyinaa atia mo kwa, me nti.

12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great {is} your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

12Mo ani nnye, na mo ho ntew: efisɛ mo akatua wɔ soro yɛ kɛseɛ: efisɛ saa na wɔtaa nkɔmhyɛfoɔ a wɔdi kan no.

13Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

13Mo ne asase no nkyene: nanso sɛ nkyene no yɛ dɛ a, dɛn na wɔde bɛma no ayɛ dɛ bio? ɛnni mfasoɔ bio, gye sɛ wɔbɛtow no agu abɔnten na nnipa atiatia no.

14Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

14Mo ne wiase hann: kuro a ɛwɔ bepɔ so no rentumi nsie.

15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. {a bushel: the word in the original signifieth a measure containing about a pint less than a peck}

15Na wɔnsɔ kanea na wɔmfa nto nkukuo ase, na mmom wɔde to kaneadua so; na ɛma wɔn a wɔwɔ fie no mu nyinaa hann.

16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

16Momma mo hann nhyerɛn wɔ nnipa anim, sɛdeɛ wɔbɛhunu mo nnwuma pa, na wɔahyɛ mo Agya a ɔwɔ soro no animuonyam.

17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

17Monnsusuw sɛ maba sɛ mebɛsɛe mmara no, anaa nkɔmhyɛfoɔ no: memmaa sɛ mebɛsɛe, na mmom sɛ mebɛma aba mu.

18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

18Efisɛ nokorɛ meka kyerɛ mo sɛ, kɔsi sɛ ɔsoro ne asase bɛtwam no, atwerɛdeɛ ketewa bi anaa nsensanee ketewa biara rentwam mmara no mu, kɔsi sɛ nneɛma nyinaa bɛba mu.

19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach {them}, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

19Enti obiara a ɔbɛbu ahyɛdeɛ yi mu ketewa biara so, na ɔbɛkyerɛkyerɛ nnipa saa ara no, wɔbɛfrɛ no ketewa wɔ ɔsoro ahennie mu: nanso obiara a ɔbɛdi so na ɔakyerɛkyerɛ no, wɔbɛfrɛ no kɛseɛ wɔ ɔsoro ahennie mu.

20For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed {the righteousness} of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

20Efisɛ meka kyerɛ mo sɛ, sɛ mo tenenee renntra twerɛfoɔ ne Farisifoɔ tenenee so a, morenkɔ ɔsoro ahennie no mu da.

21Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: {by: or, to}

21Moate sɛ wɔka kyerɛɛ wɔn tete no sɛ: Nkum; na obiara a ɔkum no, atemmuo bɛba ne so:

22But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. {Raca: that is, Vain fellow}

22Nanso meka kyerɛ mo sɛ, obiara a ne bo fuw ne nua no kwa no, atemmuo bɛba ne so: na obiara a ɔbɛka kyerɛ ne nua sɛ, Raka, ɔhyia ɔtemmufoɔ mpanyinfoɔ; na obiara a ɔbɛka sɛ, Wo nkwasea, ɔhyia ogya a ɛdɔre.

23Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;

23Enti sɛ wode wo afɔrebɔdeɛ reba afɔrebukyia no so, na wɔhɔ na wo kae sɛ wo nua wɔ biribi tia wo,

24Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

24gyae wo afɔrebɔdeɛ no wɔ afɔrebukyia no anim, na kɔ; di kan kɔ ne wo nua nkɔ asomdwoeɛ, na afei bra bɛbɔ wo afɔrebɔdeɛ no.

25Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

25Nea ɔne wo di wo asɛm no, yɛ ntɛm na wo ne no nnya asomdwoeɛ wɔ ɔkwan so, ansa na nea ɔne wo di wo asɛm no de wo bɛma ɔtemmufoɔ, na ɔtemmufoɔ de wo bɛma ɔsomfoɔ, na wɔde wo ato afiase.

26Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

26Nokorɛ meka kyerɛ wo sɛ, worenfiri hɔ da kɔsi sɛ woatua ka a ɛtwa toɔ no.

27Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

27Moate sɛ wɔkae sɛ: Mmyɛ aguamammɔ:

28But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

28Nanso meka kyerɛ mo sɛ, obiara a ɔhwɛ ɔbaa bi sɛ ɔbɛpɛ no no, ɔayɛ aguamammɔ ne no wɔ ne koma mu dedaw.

29And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast {it} from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not {that} thy whole body should be cast into hell. {offend...: or, do cause thee to offend}

29Na sɛ w'ani nifa ma wo hwe bɔne mu a, tu no, na tow no firi wo ho: efisɛ ɛyɛ mfasoɔ ma wo sɛ wo akwaa baako bɛyera, na ɛnyɛ sɛ wo nipadua nyinaa bɛkɔ ogya a ɛdɔre mu.

30And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast {it} from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not {that} thy whole body should be cast into hell.

30Na sɛ wo nsa nifa ma wo hwe bɔne mu a, twa no, na tow no firi wo ho: efisɛ ɛyɛ mfasoɔ ma wo sɛ wo akwaa baako bɛyera, na ɛnyɛ sɛ wo nipadua nyinaa bɛkɔ ogya a ɛdɔre mu.

31It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:

31Wɔaka bio sɛ: Obiara a ɔbɛgyae ne yere no, ma ɔmfa nkrataa a ɛkyerɛ gyaeɛ no mma no:

32But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

32Nanso meka kyerɛ mo sɛ, obiara a ɔgyae ne yere no, gye sɛ aguamammɔ asɛm nti, ɔma no yɛ aguamammɔ; na obiara a ɔware ɔbaa a wɔagyae no no, ɔyɛ aguamammɔ.

33Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:

33Moate bio sɛ wɔka kyerɛɛ wɔn tete no sɛ: Nnka ntam atoro, na mmom tua wo ntam a woahyɛ Awurade no.

34But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:

34Nanso meka kyerɛ mo sɛ, monnka ntam koraa; ɛnyɛ ɔsoro, efisɛ ɛyɛ Onyankopɔn ahennwa:

35Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.

35anaa asase, efisɛ ɛyɛ ne nan ntiasoɔ: anaa Yerusalem, efisɛ ɛyɛ ɔhene kɛseɛ no kuro.

36Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

36Na monnka wo ti so ntam, efisɛ worentumi mma wo tirin baako ayɛ fitaa anaa tuntum.

37But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

37Na mmom momma mo asɛm yɛ Yiw, Yiw; Dabi, Dabi: na deɛ ɛboro yei no firi ɔbonsam.

38Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

38Moate sɛ wɔaka sɛ: Ani nsi ani, na se so se:

39But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

39Nanso meka kyerɛ mo sɛ, monnsi bɔnefoɔ kwan; na mmom obiara a ɔbɔ wo ani nifa mu mpɔtam no, dane wo foforɔ no kyerɛ no nso.

40And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have {thy} cloke also.

40Na sɛ obi pɛ sɛ ɔne wo di asɛm, na ɔpɛ sɛ ɔgye wo atadeɛ no a, ma no wo ntoma no nso.

41And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

41Na obiara a ɔbɛhyɛ wo ma wokɔ anammɔn baako no, kɔ no anammɔn mmienu.

42Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

42Ma nea ɔsrɛ wo no, na nea ɔpɛ sɛ ɔbɔ wo ho ka no, nnane w'akyi nkyerɛ no.

43Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

43Moate sɛ wɔaka sɛ: Dɔ wo yɔnko, na tan w'atamfoɔ:

44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

44Nanso meka kyerɛ mo sɛ, Dɔ mo atamfoɔ, hyira wɔn a wɔduaa mo, yɛ papa ma wɔn a wɔtan mo, na mommɔ mpaeɛ mma wɔn a wɔdi mo so na wɔtaa mo:

45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

45sɛdeɛ mobɛyɛ mo Agya a ɔwɔ soro no mma: efisɛ ɔma ne owia pue wɔ bɔnefoɔ ne ateneenefoɔ so, na ɔtɔ osu ma wɔn a wɔteneene ne wɔn a wɔnyɛ ateneene.

46For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

46Efisɛ sɛ modɔ wɔn a wɔdɔ mo no, akatua bɛn na mowɔ? mpo towgyefoɔ no nnyɛ saa ara?

47And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more {than others}? do not even the publicans so?

47Na sɛ mokyea mo nuanom nko ara a, dɛn na moyɛ a ɛboro? mpo towgyefoɔ no nnyɛ saa ara?

48Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

48Enti monyɛ pɛ, sɛdeɛ mo Agya a ɔwɔ soro no yɛ pɛ.
