Matthew

Chapter 3

1In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,

1Na nna no mu no, Yohane ɔbɔ asufoɔ baa Yudea sare so rekyerɛkyerɛ,

2And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

2na ɔkae sɛ: Monsakra mo adwene: efisɛ ɔsoro ahennie no abɛn.

3For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

3Efisɛ ɔno ne nea wɔkaa ne ho asɛm nam Yesaia nkɔmhyɛfoɔ no so sɛ: Nea ɔteɛteɛm wɔ sare so no nne sɛ: Monsiesie Awurade kwan, momma ne nkwan no yɛ tɛtrɛtɛ.

4And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.

4Na Yohane no ara wɔtadeɛ a ɛfiri yoma nwoma mu, na ne kyɛfa yɛ nhoma kyekyere; na ne aduan yɛ ntɛtea ne ɛwoa.

5Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,

5Afei Yerusalem, ne Yudea nyinaa, ne asase a ɛwɔ Yordan ho nyinaa kɔɔ ne nkyɛn,

6And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

6na ɔbɔɔ wɔn asu wɔ Yordan asubɔnten no mu, bere a wɔka wɔn bɔne ho asɛm.

7But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

7Nanso bere a ɔhunuu Farisifoɔ ne Sadukifoɔ pii sɛ wɔreba ne bɔ asu no mu no, ɔkaa kyerɛɛ wɔn sɛ: Mo ɔwɔdam mma, hwan na ɔkyerɛɛ mo sɛ mommfa abufuo a ɛreba no nnwane?

8Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: {meet...: or, answerable to amendment of life}

8Enti momfa adwuma a ɛfata adwensakra brɛ.

9And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to {our} father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

9Na monnsusuw sɛ mobɛka wɔ mo ho sɛ: Yɛwɔ Abraham sɛ yɛn agya: efisɛ meka kyerɛ mo sɛ, Onyankopɔn tumi ma ɔbɔ Abraham mma firi abo yi mu.

10And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

10Na afei mpo, wɔde akuma ato dua no ntini so: enti dua biara a ɛnso aba pa no, wɔbɛtwa no, na wɔde agu ogya mu.

11I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and {with} fire:

11Me deɛ, me bɔ mo asu wɔ nsuo mu ma adwensakra: nanso nea ɔreba me akyi no, ɔwɔ tumi sen me, nea menfata sɛ me soa ne mpaboa: ɔno na ɔbɛbɔ mo asu wɔ Kronkron Honhom ne ogya mu:

12Whose fan {is} in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

12Ne fan wɔ ne nsa, na ɔbɛhohoro ne aduane afuo no, na ɔbɛboaboa atoko no ano akɔ ne akoraeɛ mu; nanso nwura no, ɔbɛhye no wɔ ogya a ɛnnum da mu.

13Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

13Afei Yesu firi Galilea baa Yohane nkyɛn wɔ Yordan, sɛ ɔbɛma ɔbɔ no asu.

14But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

14Nanso Yohane sii no kwan, sɛ: Me na ɛfata sɛ wo bɔ me asu, na wo na wobɛba me nkyɛn?

15And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer {it to be so} now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

15Na Yesu buaa no sɛ: Ma ɛnyɛ mprempren: efisɛ saa na ɛfata sɛ yɛma tenenee nyinaa ba mu. Afei ɔmaa no kwan.

16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

16Na bere a wɔbɔɔ Yesu asu no, ɔfiri nsuo no mu pueeɛ ntɛm ara: na hwɛ, ɔsoro bueeɛ maa no, na ɔhunuu Onyankopɔn Honhom no sɛ ɔforɔ a ɔresiane aba ne so.

17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

17Na hwɛ, nne bi firi soro kae sɛ: Eyi ne me Ba dɔfoɔ, a m'ani gye ne ho.
